Midwifery Exchange in Ghana
Our Mission
Ghana faces a high neonatal mortality rate of 29 deaths per 1,000 live births, surpassing the
Sub-Saharan average of 27 (WHO, 2023). Maternal mortality is similarly high, especially in Ghana's upper west region due to limited resources.
Our mission is to lower maternal and newborn morbidity and mortality rates in Ghana.

Our method is to provide continuing education for midwives in rural Ghana.

Why is this valuable?
In most of the global south, the health of mothers and newborns lie squarely and solely on midwives' shoulders. Usually the facilities lack in electricity, running water, life-saving medicine, and emergency transportation services. In this setting, it is vital midwives' skills are exquisite.

Who We Are
The Midwifery Exchange in Ghana, Inc. is a group of midwives, doctors, and physician assistants based in Ghana and the US. We have participated in successful trainings in the past and have been invited by the Ghanaian Ministry of Health to expand our efforts.

Our Approach
Facilitate midwife trainings in Helping Babies Breath, Essential Newborn Care, and OB Emergency Drills.
Provide opportunity for midwives in Ghana to become Master Trainers in the curriculum, thus making the project sustainable.
Provide lifesaving equipment to the Upper West Region of Ghana with low-impact simulation models and training guides.
Continue communication, education, and funding support towards these efforts.
